Materials Engineer/Microscopy
Cannon-Muskegon is a Precision Castparts Company, and a recognized worldwide leader in the development and manufacture of nickel/cobalt based alloys and stainless steels for investment casting applications. We are currently seeking experienced candidates for the position of Materials Engineer/Microscopy in our Technical Department. This full-time position reports to our Principal Metallurgist/Head of Laboratories, and will be responsible for optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examinations, along with other investigations of Nickel and Cobalt base super-alloy samples for C-M alloy development activities, customer technical issues, and Lab Services business.

Specific responsibilities include:

-All aspects of micrographic examination including, metallographic preparation, optical metallography and/or SEM examination, energy dispersive and wavelength dispersive spectroscopy (EDS/WDS), photo documentation, and reporting.

-SEM fractography and defect characterization for internal and external customers.

-Interaction with customers regarding requirements and results of microscopy requests.

-Routine and developmental in-house heat treatment.

-Back-up responsibility for in-house tensile testing.

-Other Technology Department duties as assigned.

Preferred candidates will have a four-year degree in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering or a related technical field of study, and have experience/familiarity with metallography and microscopy. Knowledge of super-alloy casting, forging, processing, and microstructures is a plus.
